A collective effort of Rent-A-Wreck car rental of Greensboro and Joni Eareckson Tada’s "Joni and Friends is bringing Wheels for the World to Greensboro on May 15.  An outreach of Joni and Friends, the aim is to collect donations of previously owned and serviceable wheelchairs for restoration and distribution to disabled people overseas who would otherwise go without.

Rent-A-Wreck of Greensboro, at 4519 West Market Street and Rent-A-Wreck of Winston Salem is the location for the Wheels for the World event in the Triad.  It all begins at 8am Saturday, May 15 with the goal of 500 items collected before May 29.  The wheelchairs are collected by volunteers around the Triad and then shipped to a Wheels for the World restoration center to be restored by inmates to near-new condition and prepared for shipment to countries around the world.

Last year, over 2400 wheelchairs were distributed to those in need by teams of disability specialists in countries like Romania, Poland, Ghana, China, Haiti and others.  Each chair is fitted to the person by a physical therapist, and a Bible is given to them in their own language.
